He always
had a quirky sense of humor. He said that being on a ship in the middle of the
ocean got so boring that he and the other sailors would often change up a
popular tune or poem. He would recite his favorite one every time we sat down
to eat and it got too quiet. I can remember J laughing hysterically.

His feet
were burned to blisters
He had no
pants to call his own
And so, he
wore his sister’s
